Stone Age Day at Murton Park

3H had such an incredible day at Murton Park! We enjoyed living and working as people in the Stone Age would have.

We made Stone Age pottery and used sticks to add details. Stone Age people used pots to express themselves so each of our pots are unique to us.

We were archaeologists as we sketched some Stone Age items like tools and spears.

We also created a class cave painting!

We hunted wild boars, deer and bears! We had to be quiet and use hand signals to communicate with each other so we didn’t scare the animals away. We had a great time throwing our spears!

We wove wool to create fabric and ground grain to make flour.

We ended the day in a roundhouse, listening to a story around the fire.

Anti Bullying Week – ‘Make a noise about bullying’

For Anti Bullying Week 3H were learning how to explain how bullying happens and what to do about it. We watched an anti bullying film which introduced the key words ‘perpetrator’ ‘victim’ ‘bystander’ and ‘upstander’. Next, we created fantastic posters distilling all we had learnt. Lastly, we used the fantastic posters we had created and the chant ‘make a noise‘ during our picket. It was rainy but we discussed that if you really care about something you will do it regardless of the weather. We aren’t fair weather activists at ACE!

Remembrance Day Poppies

On Tuesday, Reverend Dave spoke to Key Stage 2 about Remembrance Day during assembly. Following that, we talked about what images are used for remembrance day and explored poppies and why they are used as a symbol. Then we worked hard to paint and create our own poppies and finally we combined them all to create a beautiful, red wreath which we are excited to display in the hall towards the end of the week.

Making Stone Age tools

This morning Wolf Clan were transported back to the Stone Age and had the challenging task of creating a Stone Age tool using only a stone, a stick and grass.

“I can do this if I believe in myself.”

“The Stone Age people had to work hard to make their tools.”

“Making a spear is harder than it looks.”

Visiting our local library

This afternoon 3H had the fantastic experience of visiting the local library.

We listened to a story called Pet Potato. and then shared our own ideas for what we might do if we have a pet potato ourselves.

After, we explored the library ourselves and chose books to read with our friends. We even borrowed some books for the classroom. Our class librarian will be in charge of making sure we keep them safe and return them in time.

Chime Bars

Year 3 have been exploring the ideas of high and low pitch. They used the song ‘Elevator’ to recognise changes in pitch and are learning the skill of identifying when a note is higher or lower. Building on this, they are now learning to perform the song using voice and chime bars.

-Watch them beginning to explore Elevator on the chime bars

WOLF CLAN

First, we experimented using charcoal and chalk to make cave painting style sketches. We explored line thickness, smudging and shading.

Then, we used what we had learnt and applied it to our own wolf clan drawings.

Place Value Detectives

To round off our place value learning we have been playing the game ‘place value detectives’. One partner writes a 3 digit number on their whiteboard and shows it to the other partner. They then have to remember the number and make it using place value counters. At the end, the partner with the whiteboard checks the number and any edits are made together.
