Synagogue trip

This morning 3H had a brilliant time visiting the synagogue!

They listened to learnt from the members of the synagogue.

They learnt about bat mitzvah and bar mitzvah as well as weddings.

Then they looked at a Torah scroll and learnt about how it was written by hand.

After that, they went into the small synagogue to learn about sabbath.

We had a fantastic day learning all about this religion. We asked great questions and they were very impressed with all our knowledge about Judaism.




Sports day

What a fantastic day we had! We won some races, cheered until we couldn’t speak anymore and had an all round great time. It was so great to see so many of 3H preserving, challenging themselves, cheering others on and working together so well. Well done 3H!

’Sports Day is the best day of the year!’ ‘Wow! They really preserved through that race!’ ‘I’m so proud of myself.’

Celebrations

Awesome Art!

Luna spoke about creating this beautiful piece of art. ‘After a while, it was difficult. I was in the pit so I had a break. Then I persevered.’ What an incredible journey through the learning line and a fantastic piece of art to show for it. Well done Luna!

Chess Champions!

Across the year, year 3 learn how to play chess. It’s a brilliant skill to have and the children enjoy learning each of the pieces and then building up to be able to play against each other. These children have been playing chess brilliantly all year and won their chess contests this week. Well done!

Riveting Research!

Over the half term, year 3 were given a research task. They were asked to research a Victorian Invention. Here we have two lots of brilliant research about the first motor car invented in 1885 by Carl Benz.

Notation

3H have been learning all about music notation. In the video you will see them clapping and along and using their voices to 4 beat bars using ‘frogs, tadpoles and rests.’ The frog represents a crotchet and the tadpole represents a quaver.

The they progressed to only clapping the frogs and tadpoles. After that, they were able to clap a 4 beat bar reading the notation in their head and clapping along.

They start with tadpoles and frogs, then to the notes without the stem, then finally to reading notation.

WOW walk to school week

What a way to kick off walk to school week! Strider the walk to school mascot joined in this mornings assembly. Strider had been walking to school for 8:30 with some children too. Well done if you made an active journey this week. Keep it up!

Music

This morning 3H had a fantastic music lesson where they learnt all about tempo, pitch as well as ostinatos and began to read notation.

They explored tempo and pitch by singing a song and then varying the tempo and pitch. They were able to notice what had changed and how. ‘The tempo was faster.’ ‘The pitch was higher.’ From this, they were also able to internalise the song. We added actions and began to take certain words out. By the end we had internalised the song so we didn’t sing anything out loud- only the actions!

They learnt that ostinato means something that repeats over and over again. They created a word ostinato and we performed it as a round.
