In 3H we’ve been getting excited for Christmas! Opening our daily advent calendar as a class, making 3D Christmas trees, Christmas jumper day and creating a class advent display have been some highlights. We are still looking forward to Carols around the tree and the Christingle this week. Here are some festive pictures for you to enjoy.
Miss Whiteley reading us a Christmas story!
Thank you so much to 3H for all their hard work this term. It’s been a pleasure to see them learn and grow in so many ways. And to their families, thank you for all you’ve done to support them in their learning journey so far. I hope you have a restful festive season!
3H had a brilliant time at the theatre this morning! They enjoyed the Stick Man play and it was lovely to see them laughing and enjoying the story. Thank you to all the parents who came along too.
Yesterday 3H had a brilliant time at Murton Park for an immersive Stone Age day! On the way to Murton Park, partners had a map each and tracked the journey together noting where they were, the time it had taken and key features around them.
Once we had arrived we made sure to stay wrapped up warm but dress like Stone Age people so we wore tunics.
We gathered around the fire pit of our Stone Age village for a ‘Wolf Tribe’ meeting.
After that, we set off in our groups or ‘Stone Age families’ to work through a series of activities together.
Hunting
Making Bell Beaker Pottery
Weaving
Grinding wheat
We ended the day sharing a story over a fire in a roundhouse.
The trip was a lovely culmination to the Stone Age topic. The children really impressed the guide with how much they knew and they throughly enjoyed the day.
This afternoon 3H had the exciting chance to play the ukulele! They had a brilliant time learning about the parts of the ukulele, the string names and how to strum. They even played along to a song using the C choir and the A minor chord.
Yesterday we spent some time learning about why we wear poppies and what we remember on Remembrance Day. From this, we each created our own poppy and have created a poppy wreath which we will share in Collective Worship on Tuesday.
October has been a truly enriching month for 3H as we’ve explored Black History.
We’ve delved into the inspiring stories of significant figures the children already knew, such as the pioneering nurse Mary Seacole and astronaut Mae Jemison. They were also aware of the incredible courage of activists like Rosa Parks and the achievements of people like Guion Bluford, the first African American in space.
We’ve taken the time to discuss their personal journeys, the challenges they overcame, and the profound, lasting impact they had on the world. It’s been wonderful to see the children engage so thoughtfully with these important historical figures.
Pupil voice from 3H about Black History Month ‘Not all black people have been celebrated in history and now it’s good that we make sure everyone is celebrated.’ ‘I like the world it is more fair than it was before. I like learning about black people who have been important in history.’ ‘I love learning about black history.’ ‘I am enjoying learning more about important black people.’ ‘It’s important that we learn about the good and important things black people have done.’
To learn about some keywords related to Black History Month like ‘respect’ and ‘equality’ we had a go at a special word search. Here you can see them concentrating as they hunt for words like ‘inspiring’ and ‘hope’.
On Monday afternoons, 3H do PE and chess. In PE they have been doing gymnastics and learning to balance, jump and roll. They have been looking at forward rolls, point and patch balances as well as practicing star jumps, straight jumps and tuck jumps.
In chess, they have been looking at how each piece moves. So far, they have looked at how pawns, rooks, bishops and queens move on a chess board.
They start by looking at how the pieces move all together on the carpet and then they move on to look at how they move on a chess board.
We have been practice our Spanish language skills. It has been wonderful to see our conversational Spanish developing and children being able to hold conversations with each other in Spanish.
