Wow! What a fun day 3H had today! They cheered, ran and had lots of fun. It was so good to see everyone competing in races and enjoying the various field events. There was a a lovely team spirit atmosphere where they were supporting and encouraging each other. Well done 3H!

3H spent this afternoon outside enjoying the weather and being active. Their PE unit is Cricket so they have been practicing throwing and catching with varying levels of challenge. Watch the video to see them split into batters and fielders competing against each other in a throwing and catching game.

After this 3H cooled down and then enjoyed running on the daily mile track. What a great afternoon!

This afternoon 3H used their new found compass skills to navigate their way around the school grounds. They made their way to various points across the school and logged their direction of travel.

After this, as part of mental health week they went on a ‘emoji emotion hunt’ where they explored the orchard and surrounding area to find the different emotions.

It was a lovely afternoon filled with activity, learning, exercise, fun and sun!

This afternoon 3H took a stroll down to Adel woods.

In the woods we were met by the Roots and Routes team.

One group worked with Bobak and explored movement in art. They warmed themselves up and then watched Bobak perform whilst making sketches from his movements.

The artist modelled how to create these dynamic pieces.

Another group explored art and acting with Jane and Louise, one was a herbalist and the other a train constructor. They explored some aspects of Victorian medicine as well as the industrial revolution.

They drew plants from the forest up close.

Then they acted out the different jobs that are a part of making trains and train tracks and created sentences with their movements.

3H had a brilliantly creative and active afternoon exploring their science learning on plants and their history learning around the Victorians.

This morning we had an exciting visit from Strider the wall to school mascot!

Well done to all the children who are choosing to make active journeys and reducing their carbon footprint.

This half term 3H have been exploring typography. After experimentation, they have created their own font. Here they are proudly showing their hard work.

This year 3H have been brilliant ACE scientists. They have investigated and explored changes over time.

One experiment was investigating the effects of UV light. They set up an experiment with black card and tissue paper. The black card protected the tissue paper from the damage of the UV light.

Another experiment has been around water transportation.
We put celery into red food colouring mixed with water so that we could see the water being transported through the plant.

We started the morning off by hearing a story from a ‘mad scientist’ who told us about George making a difference type of medicine which ended with two trees growing from it. A good tree and an evil tree. It is a lovely link to our class novel this half term George’s Marvellous Medicine.

We then split into different groups. One group worked very carefully to create the medicine. This also links to our maths learning as we have just started to explore mass and capacity. They were using words like capacity and volume during this task and gaining a deeper understanding of this unit.

One group used different elements of dance to represent the good and evil trees.

The next group were actors as they acted out the story they had been told.

Another group were artists as they painted contrasting images to show the good and evil trees.

At the end of the morning we all got together to show what each of the different groups had been doing. It was a wonderful creative morning!

We are very much looking forward to welcoming the adults of 3H onto the school grounds on Thursday 1st May at 9:30 to join the class in this exciting learning journey.

Welcome back after the Easter break 3H. We have had an exciting first day back because we had the privilege of meeting the author Dermot O’Leary!

He told us about all of his 7 books and he discussed the illustrations of his books as well.

The illustrator Claire Powell led us in a draw along of one of the characters Agent Feathers. We got to ask Dermot lots of interesting questions about his books and his story writing process.

Thank you to everyone who has completed the volcano project so brilliantly. It has been fantastic to see so many creative ways of making volcanoes as well as detailed and accurate labelling. Take a look at our volcanoes!
