Today in science we have been investigating light.

We picked our partners and used torches to investigate items in the classroom and whether they are transparent, translucent or opaque.
Here are some photos of our investigation.

3H had a DT day! Previously, we had designed our mittens. Then we had measured out the mittens to our hands and cut them out. Today, we started off by cutting out our designs and then we began to sew the designs on to our mittens.

Before sewing, we discussed the learning journey that we were about to embark on and how we might feel and be able to help ourselves throughout the process.
This morning was the start of our Roots and Routes project! We started the morning in the dance hall exploring movement and creating letters.

Then we talked about Ivan’s journey through the icy forest and acted out the different animals he might find along the way in groups. We focussed on our senses, exploring what he might feel or hear at different points. We created the beginnings of a map.

Back in the classroom we discussed line, shape, texture and shade. Then we took our viewfinders outside to capture parts of nature and sketch them.

Finally we returned to the classroom to finish our sketches.

This afternoon 3H have been exploring continents. They explored the different features of each continent and worked in teams to match the continent to its name.

This half term our topic is all about the book Ice Palace by Robert Swindells.

To kick off our topic we took advantage of the snow to create our own ice palaces.

Today Year 3 have loved wearing their Christmas jumpers and enjoyed their treat of a Christmas dinner! They ended the day making 3D standing Christmas trees!

Thank you to all the families who came to Carols around the tree and watched Year 3 and 4 perform some beautiful carols. As well as the choir, steel pans and Nathaniel’s piano performance.

Wow! It has been so brilliant to see so many children in Year 3 create their own Stone Age Project to show what they have learnt this half term! Here a some very smiley faces proudly sharing their work.

Year 3 have been enjoying getting into the Christmas spirit. They like to keep warm and cosy so we have been reading by firelight which has created a calm environment for them to enjoy.

This half term we have been learning about the Bronze Age. As part of this we have been exploring what the beliefs of the people in the Bronze Age were. We have discovered how important the sun was to people at that time. Here are some lovely sketches of Bronze Age items.
