Chime Bars

Year 3 have been exploring the ideas of high and low pitch. They used the song ‘Elevator’ to recognise changes in pitch and are learning the skill of identifying when a note is higher or lower. Building on this, they are now learning to perform the song using voice and chime bars.

WOLF CLAN

First, we experimented using charcoal and chalk to make cave painting style sketches. We explored line thickness, smudging and shading.

Then, we used what we had learnt and applied it to our own wolf clan drawings.

Place Value Detectives

To round off our place value learning we have been playing the game ‘place value detectives’. One partner writes a 3 digit number on their whiteboard and shows it to the other partner. They then have to remember the number and make it using place value counters. At the end, the partner with the whiteboard checks the number and any edits are made together.

Super scientists

3H have been investigating and comparing rocks based on their properties. We started by noticing the properties of the rocks and using words like hard, smooth, dull or rough to describe them. Then we used a Venn diagram to compare two rocks and wrote down the similarities and differences.

In the next lesson we introduced the terms permeable and impermeable. We experimented by placing the rocks in water and tested them to see if they released air. If the bubbles appeared it showed us that the rock was permeable because they have spaces on the inside that run all the way through the rock. This can trap air bubbles. If there was no bubbles, the rock was impermeable.

We have been fantastic investigators!

Magnificent Maths!

This morning, 3H looked at place value to 1,000. They used place value counters charts to represent numbers up to 1,000. They enjoyed using manipulatives to explore this in pairs.

“I enjoyed using the counters and sorting them into hundreds, tens and ones.” -Wills

“I enjoyed it because it was challenging and I liked using the place value counters.” -Jaxon

Apple picking

This morning 3H collected apples from our orchard. We had fun cutting the apples up for tasting and looking at the colour of the flesh as well as the skin. We explored the shape of the apples and how cutting horizontally through an apple gives a different view of them. At the end they made for a delicious snack!

Synagogue Trip

This morning 3H visited our local synagogue. They had a fantastic time! They had chance to hear from the people in the Synagogue talk about their place of worship.

Afterwards, they explored the Torah, the Synagogue and Shabbat.

Then they learnt about the special events Synagogues can hold like Bat mitzvahs, Bar mitzvahs and weddings. Next, they explored a scroll and the link between the decorations and the high priest.

Please watch a few videos of the children exploring the synagogue.
