3H have spent this afternoon writing some beautiful Christmas prayers which have been attached to baubles and used to decorate a tree outside.

ACE Mathematicians
In maths, we have been learning about addition and subtraction of two numbers across a 10 and 100. We have been discussing the concept of exchanging. A fantastic example of our mathematical language is “You have to exchange to work out 5 – 8, so you need to exchange 1 ten for 10 ones which would mean the sum is now 15 – 8.”
We have been resourceful like Emmet using our practical equipment to help us add and subtract.
Phenomenal Poppies
3H thoroughly enjoyed creating a fantastic sketch of a poppy to commemorate remembrance day. They added detail and colour to produce these vibrant poppies which they are very proud of.
This afternoon 3H loved using the library to read a fantastic range of books and scan some out to take and read at home. We have learnt about how to take care of books and how to look after the library and it was wonderful to see them putting this into practice so brilliantly.
Super Scientists!
3H loved exploring the bones in the human body with the help of ‘Steve’.
Steve showed us the different bones in our bodies and what their 3 main purposes are:
- Supporting us, so we can sit, stand and move around
- Protecting soft and delicate organs, such as the brain and lungs
- Allowing movement. We could be supported and protected by a rigid skeleton but it wouldn’t be much use if we couldn’t move. There are different kinds of joints in different parts of the body
We had lots of fun using our bodies to dance along to a song all about bones and then using what we learnt to label the different bones in a skeleton.
Call To Earth
Today, we took part in the Call to Earth Day by picking up litter in our school grounds. #CallToEarth. Find out more about what you could do here: https://edition.cnn.com/2020/06/07/world/amazing-oceans-spc-scn-intl/index.html
Women’s Rugby League World Cup
Year 3 and 4 had an absolutely incredible time watching the Women’s Rugby League World Cup. We loved watching the incredible sport and being a part of the atmosphere by cheering them on! A particular highlight is “to be watching England score all the points.” A fantastic time was had by all!
What a celebration!
Thank you so much to all the adults that came to share in our children’s fantastic artwork! They have all impressed me so much over the past two weeks with their resilience, resourcefulness and relationships with one another. I hope you enjoyed the celebration. If you missed it or would just like to watch it again, the video is below. Have a lovely half term 🙂
Deer Clan!
There is no more 3H for these two weeks, we are Deer Clan! The first week of our arts fortnight has involved exploring making marks, pottery, mono-printing, dance and much more! We look forward to sharing all our learning with you next Thursday. Starting with plasticine, then moving to clay we began to create a coil constructed pot just like they did in the Stone Age!
We have also had such fun using what we already know about mono-printing to create Deer Clan inspired prints which are on display. We worked in groups of 3 and collaborated to create our masterpieces.
Visitors in Year 3!
This week Year 3 have been immensely privileged to have had a visit from the poet Tony Peek who shared some wild and wonderful poetry with the children. We were also lucky enough to have a mystery reader stop by this afternoon to share a story with us.
